Reach Out And Read is coming to WMC!
Reading aloud to your baby or young child under age 5 is one of the best things you can do to prepare her for school.
It’s important to read to your little one even before she can talk! The more words a parent uses with an 8-month old baby, the larger the child’s vocabulary will be at age 3. She will learn to read more easily and be on a path for success when she starts school. Family story time is more than just fun—it’s essential.
That’s why Wallace will introduce “Reach Out and Read” at both of our medical clinics this winter. Our primary care providers will talk with parents about the importance of reading aloud to their kids—and at every regular check-up from 6 months to age 5, children will take home a new book that’s just right for their age level. Books will be available in both English and Spanish.
And we’re also creating Reading Corners in our clinics, so kids and parents can enjoy a story while they wait for their appointment.
Reach Out and Read works. It’s a national program based on the special, trusting relationship between parents and the medical providers who care for their kids. Our care team at Wallace looks forward to “prescribing” Good Night, Gorilla, Caps for Sale, Is Your Mama a Llama? and many more wonderful stories for kids and families to enjoy—and learn from—together.
Now cuddle up with your child (or grandchild or nephew or niece), crack open a good book and read!
